I recently visited Zak’s Restaurant and had a mostly enjoyable experience, especially when it came to the food. The standout dishes for me were the karahi and the lamb ribs with BBQ sauce. The karahi was rich, full of flavour, and clearly cooked with fresh spices—it had that authentic taste you hope for. The lamb ribs were equally impressive: tender, juicy, and coated in a delicious BBQ sauce that balanced sweetness and smokiness really well.

From Akbars Bradford Legacy to a Hidden Miracle—Zaks Revived the Best Charsi Karahi!
I was at my barber’s on Woodsley Road, Leeds, talking about craving the legendary charsi karahi from Akbars in Bradford. I thought I couldn’t get it. After visiting an Arabic restaurant, they pointed me across to Zaks. I asked if they could make something like Akbars. The owner's son told me his father, also Zaks' owner,had been Akbars' head chef for 15 years during its prime, until 2014. Even though it wasn’t on the menu, they made the chicken and keema charsi for me, and it was even better than today’s Akbars. It’s a hidden gem, amazing food at a great price. The best!
